Founder of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, has claimed that his prayers played a role in the political victories of Nyesom Wike, former governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In a video from a church service that circulated on social media on Sunday, the pastor spoke about the period when Wike was contesting for the governorship under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and faced legal challenges in court.
According to Ibiyeomie, the politician lost key court rulings during the process and was under intense pressure at the time.
“Wike came, lost in the High Court, lost in the Supreme Court. APC was in power, and we were doing five nights of glory. It was not a money problem, he knew the judgment was against him,” the pastor said.
Ibiyeomie explained that Wike contacted him during the difficult period seeking spiritual support.
“Don’t fear. I will go to God on your behalf. Even if you are meant to lose, God will change it,” he said he told the politician.
The cleric added that people around Wike doubted he would win his second election and claimed the politician was worried about the outcome.
“He sent me a note saying, ‘Papa, do I go off?’ He was shaking because everything was against him,” Ibiyeomie said.
The pastor also claimed that he made a personal covenant with God on Wike’s behalf and gave money as part of his prayers without informing the politician.
“I told the Lord, for my sake, not because of him,” he said.
Ibiyeomie further alleged that there were plans to alter the election result in favour of another candidate identified as Lawal, but that the attempt failed.
“The day they were to change the result and give it to one person called Lawal, something happened. On the spot, the High Commission stepped into INEC. They couldn’t change the result. That’s how he became governor the second time,” he said.
The pastor added that Wike later invited him for a thanksgiving service after his election victories.
Nyesom Wike served as governor of Rivers State from 2015 to 2023 and currently holds the position of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
