Singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has opened up about his early dream of becoming a professional footballer before music eventually changed the direction of his life.
The former P-Square star shared a throwback video on Instagram on Wednesday showing himself alongside former Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi, sparking memories of the time he actively pursued football while also nurturing his passion for music.
According to Peter, he once had the opportunity to play professional football after training at Pepsi Football Academy in Jos.
Sharing the memory, he wrote:
“NEVER GIVE UP! Yes, I used to play football and chase music at the same time.
I was even offered the chance to play for Plateau United F.C from Pepsi Academy back then in Jos. But my dream was always to play in Europe.
Somehow, destiny chose the mic instead. Today, I’m an established and successful artist/musician. That’s nothing but grace. OGforever.”
Peter Okoye grew up in Jos, Plateau State, where he and his twin brother Paul Okoye developed a strong interest in music and dance during their school years.
The brothers later formed the music group P-Square, which went on to become one of the most successful pop acts in Africa in the early 2000s.
With a long list of hit songs and international performances, P-Square dominated the music scene for years before the duo eventually split.
Peter now performs as Mr P, while his brother Paul continues his career as Rudeboy, with both artists pursuing solo music journeys.
