Terrorists now use Keke to deliver bombs – Ndume

Ali Ndume

Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has warned that terrorists and bandits across Nigeria are adopting more sophisticated and dangerous methods in carrying out attacks.

Speaking during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, the lawmaker explained that criminal groups are becoming increasingly organized, relying on intelligence networks and new tactics to strike communities.

Ndume revealed that these groups often depend on local informants to gather sensitive information, which they use to plan and execute attacks. He noted that many operations are carried out using “hit-and-run” strategies, allowing perpetrators to move quickly and avoid capture.

“What they do is hit and run. They gather around, pass information among themselves, and most dangerously, they get information from some citizens too. They have informants within the society.”

The senator further disclosed that some recent attacks have involved unconventional methods, including the use of commercial tricycles, popularly known as Keke Napep, to transport explosive devices to specific locations.

“You can imagine, even the bomb that exploded, it was delivered by Keke Napep. They package it and give it to people in Keke Napep to deliver at specific spots,” he said.

Drawing from his understanding of their operations, Ndume explained that these groups constantly look for ways to infiltrate communities, execute attacks, and escape without being apprehended.

“I understand their mode of operation moving around, trying to find a way in to carry out their activities and escape.”

He, however, attributed the worsening security situation to gaps in intelligence gathering, stressing the need for authorities to strengthen surveillance systems and information-sharing networks.

Ndume also expressed concern over what he described as the growing boldness of these groups, noting that some now record and share their activities on platforms like TikTok.

“You can imagine bandits and terrorists in Nigeria having the audacity to record their atrocities on TikTok and send it out to people.”
