The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against Harvard University, accusing the institution of failing to adequately protect Jewish and Israeli students on campus.
According to a complaint lodged in a federal court in Boston by the United States Department of Justice, Harvard is alleged to have shown deliberate indifference toward hostility faced by these students and failed to enforce its own policies when they were the victims.
The filing claims that such actions effectively signaled exclusion, leaving affected students without equal access to educational opportunities.
Harvard has not issued an immediate response to the lawsuit.
The legal move comes shortly after the administration reportedly sought a financial settlement from the university over its policies, with earlier figures said to have reached up to $1 billion.
It also follows a separate case filed in February, in which the government accused Harvard of not complying with a federal investigation and requested documents related to whether race was considered in its admissions process.
