US issues global security alert over Iran-linked threats

Trump announces ceasefire between Iran and Israel

The United States Department of State has issued a worldwide security alert, warning Americans abroad to remain vigilant amid potential threats linked to Iran-backed groups.

In a statement, the department urged citizens, particularly those in the Middle East, to exercise increased caution and stay updated with advisories from nearby U.S. embassies and consulates.

“The Department of State advises Americans worldwide, and especially in the Middle East, to exercise increased caution. Americans abroad should follow the guidance in security alerts issued by the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate,” the State Department said.

Officials also warned of possible travel disruptions due to airspace closures and noted that U.S. diplomatic facilities have been targeted in recent incidents.

“Periodic airspace closures may cause travel disruptions. U.S. diplomatic facilities, including outside the Middle East, have been targeted,” the warning continued.

“Groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or locations associated with the United States and/or Americans throughout the world.”

The alert follows rising tensions involving Iran, after comments from military spokesman Abolfazl Shekarchi, who warned of potential attacks on global tourist destinations amid ongoing hostilities.

The situation escalated after reported military actions involving the United States and Israel against Iran in late February, which allegedly resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

In response, Iran reportedly launched retaliatory strikes targeting U.S. interests in the region, with incidents affecting locations in Dubai and Israel. A projectile was also reported to have struck the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, impacting part of the compound.

Iran has since signaled a more aggressive stance, warning it may adopt a policy of “zero restraint,” including potential strikes on energy infrastructure across the Persian Gulf and financial institutions linked to the United States.
