“I Regret Getting Married” — Jelly Babie Opens Up About Alleged Abuse and Painful Marriage Experience

Barcadi dancer and singer Jelly Babie has left Mzansi shaken after opening up about her alleged experience in an abusive marriage.

The performer, whose real name is Karabo Khakhu, got candid during a recent Instagram Q and A, where she responded to a fan who asked how married life had treated her, and her answer was anything but expected.

“Yoh, I regret getting married,” she wrote.

Jelly Babie went on to share images showing bruises on her legs, linking them to the difficult experiences she says she endured during her marriage.

“I survived being in an abusive marriage at a young age but I don’t think I will ever recover,” she shared.

The revelation quickly sparked concern across social media, with many Mzansi users expressing shock and support as her posts began circulating.

She also opened up about the emotional toll the alleged abuse took on her, revealing that she went through extremely dark moments during that period.

“I tried many times but God is always next to me,” she said, reflecting on how she managed to pull through.

Jelly Babie further claimed that her husband controlled her finances throughout the marriage. According to her, she was persuaded to send all the money she earned from gigs so they could supposedly build a future together.

“He manipulated me and told me I can’t save money, I spend a lot. I must send him my gigs money so we can save money for a better future and I did send him all my money for like full two years,” she explained.

She alleged that the total amount she sent was over R2 million, which she later discovered had been spent on other women.

Despite the painful experiences she shared, Jelly Babie made it clear that she chooses honesty over perfection in her online life.

“One thing about me, I will never hide my honest truth about my life and post only happy moments,” she said.

Her recent revelations have also brought back an earlier interview she gave to Freshman Magazine, in which she spoke about her views on marriage at the time. Having gotten married at just 18, she described marriage as a serious responsibility that requires constant care and commitment.

“Marriage is different from a relationship because no matter what you do, no matter how angry you are, you always must go back home,” she said at the time.

She had also shared that her husband supported her career and understood her life as an artist, adding that his presence at her performances motivated her to give her best on stage.

Now that her story is out in the open, many in Mzansi are rallying around Jelly Babie, showing support as she continues to process and speak about her experience.
