Veteran Fuji musician Saheed Osupa has stirred widespread reactions after openly stating that he engages in spiritual practices, commonly referred to as juju, as part of his journey to success.
The 55-year-old made the remarks while performing at the 52nd birthday celebration of actor Fatai Odua on March 30.
In a video from the event, Osupa said he does not hide his beliefs, contrasting himself with others who, according to him, practise privately.
“Everybody practises voodoo. While some hide behind the scenes to do theirs, I do mine in the open,” he said, adding that claims of relying solely on religious texts are “not entirely true” in his case.
He explained that he once rejected advice to publicly deny such beliefs, insisting he sees nothing wrong with his stance.
“I didn’t kill anyone with my juju or commit evil with it. I am only looking for how to progress,” he added.
Personal Beliefs and Routine
Osupa also spoke about his daily spiritual routine, revealing that he pays homage to Ifa and believes it plays a role in his life and career.
He questioned alternative paths to success, suggesting that his approach is simply a means of seeking progress and comfort.

His comments have since generated debate on social media, with many disagreeing with his claim that such practices are universal, while others defended his right to personal beliefs.
Saheed Osupa remains a prominent figure in Fuji music, a genre popularised by pioneers like Sikiru Ayinde Barrister.
He has sustained a long career in the industry and is also known for his past rivalry and eventual reconciliation with fellow Fuji star Wasiu Pasuma in 2023.
