Nollywood actress Wumi Toriola has humorously warned fans and social media users against comparing her outfit with those of other celebrities ahead of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
In a playful video shared online before the event, the actress appealed to the public to show her love regardless of whatever she wears to the ceremony.
According to Wumi, fashion competition is not her strength, and she would rather people focus their energy on supporting her movies rather than ranking her appearance against other stars.
“So my people, if you see me at the event — AMVCA, don’t worry, don’t bother,” she said jokingly.
Please if you see me at the AMVCA event don’t bother to compare I don’t what to be in that space, I don’t really know how to do too much which ever way I look just look at me with love

“In any of the clothes I wear, look away, don’t compare me — choose A or B. Don’t put me on that platform or in that space.”
The actress added that she does not consider herself particularly fashionable and would appreciate being judged less harshly in style conversations that often dominate online discussions of award shows.
“You know, I don’t really know how to do so much, so don’t just put me there. Just use the energy to watch my movie,” she added.
“Whichever way I look, just look at me with love and don’t compare. It will not be fair to my personality.
Her comments quickly generated reactions online, with many fans praising her honesty, humor, and self-awareness.
Wumi Toriola has built a reputation for speaking candidly online about both her personal struggles and experiences within the Nigerian film industry.
In recent months, the actress has openly discussed topics ranging from emotional well-being to the pressures of filmmaking and competition within Nollywood.
At one point, she admitted that she often feels uncomfortable or unhappy around strangers, jokingly questioning whether she had unknowingly “collected witchcraft.”
She has also repeatedly addressed the realities of producing movies in a difficult economy, explaining that filmmakers continue creating despite financial limitations and industry pressures.
The actress previously criticized what she described as the rise of inexperienced actors charging excessively high fees while failing to improve their craft.
Wumi has also defended her growing success on YouTube after some colleagues allegedly dismissed her as “just a YouTube star.”
Rather than taking offense, she said she proudly embraced the label, pointing out that several people who criticized digital filmmaking had not themselves achieved success in it.
Known for her outspoken personality, Wumi Toriola often reminds followers to focus on her own journey rather than competing with others.
“I walk my own path unapologetically,” she once said, adding that she refuses to let hype, noise, or public opinions distract her focus.
Her latest AMVCA comments continue that same pattern — humorous, self-aware, and intentionally avoiding unnecessary competition in an industry heavily driven by public comparison and online commentary.
