Controversial Lagos socialite and nightlife entrepreneur Pretty Mike has revealed that he spent more than ₦100 million renovating his nightclub, Proxy Lagos, after the business was shut down for months following a raid by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Speaking during a chat with journalists at the club, Pretty Mike opened up about the financial and emotional impact the closure had on both him and his staff, admitting the period tested him heavily.
According to him, the club remained shut for nearly 9 months after the operation, forcing him to rethink the business entirely before relaunching it with a new look and an upgraded experience.
“I spent over ₦100 million renovating the club,” he said.
“After everything that happened, I felt there was a need to rebuild and create something even better for people who support my business.”
The nightlife businessman explained that, despite the prolonged shutdown, he had managed to survive financially by diversifying his income beyond nightlife entertainment.
According to him, the Pretty Mike brand has remained profitable over the years, despite controversies surrounding his public image.
“The brand, Pretty Mike, is always making money. That is what has kept me afloat regardless,” he stated.
He further disclosed that he is involved in multiple businesses outside club ownership, including construction and real estate.
“I have a construction firm. I’m also slightly into real estate where I build and sell properties,” he explained.
“Then, of course, there’s family support. People feel safe investing with me because they know I’m not the type to disappear.”
Pretty Mike also addressed his controversial reputation, admitting that it has become deeply attached to his public brand over time, even though he does not intentionally seek out scandals.
“My brand is already a controversial brand,” he said.
“It doesn’t necessarily mean I like controversy, but I found out that in this business, it is part of it.”
Interestingly, despite being one of Lagos nightlife’s loudest personalities publicly, the socialite claimed he naturally prefers a quieter lifestyle away from parties and noise.
“I actually hate parties and loud music,” he revealed.
“I like staying indoors by myself, but because nightlife is my business and source of income, I have to push myself out there.”
The businessman also opened up about marriage and relationships, saying he still hopes to settle down eventually, despite becoming more cautious due to the rising rate of failed marriages.
“Am I looking forward to marriage? Yes,” he said.
“I believe marriage is a major achievement. There’s nothing more beautiful than building a family and raising children together.”
According to him, physical appearance alone is not enough for a successful marriage, stressing that attitude and character matter far more when choosing a life partner.
“For me, it’s about behaviour, attitude and personality. Physical appearance is not enough to sustain a marriage,” he added.
Over the years, Pretty Mike has remained one of the most talked-about figures in Nigerian nightlife culture, regularly trending for his dramatic entrances, controversial stunts, and flamboyant lifestyle.
