Yeni Kuti (born on May 24, 1961, 65 years old) is from England, United Kingdom, and was brought up by the legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and his British wife, Remilekun Taylor.
At the age of two, she came to Nigeria and was educated there through secondary school. The musical, dancing, and activist elements that characterized the Ransome-Kuti family also deeply affected her. She earned a diploma in Journalism from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism. Career
Yeni Kuti was a fashion designer. Then, in 1986, she combined music and dance. At that time, she became a member of her father, Fela Kuti’s band, Egypt 80, both as a singer and dancer, and later on, of her brother, Femi Kuti’s band, Positive Force. She also came up with the concept of Felabration, a yearly festival that commemorates the life and music of her father, Fela Kuti.
