“I Can Never Marry a Nigerian” — DJ Cuppy Opens Up About Dating and Why She Is Looking Beyond Nigeria

DJ Cuppy Laments Time Running Out as 32nd Birthday Approaches

Nigerian disc jockey and billionaire heiress Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has sparked reactions after revealing that she does not see herself marrying a Nigerian.

Speaking during a recent podcast appearance, the entertainer explained that some of her past dating experiences made her question whether certain men were genuinely interested in her or more focused on her famous family background.

According to Cuppy, one of the men she had previously dated was eager to meet her father, billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, which made her uncomfortable.

“I can never marry a Nigerian. It’s impossible.

The last one I dated was asking me when he could meet my dad. I didn’t even think they liked me.

My dad doesn’t even care who I marry; he wants me to get married.

That’s why I’m so happy for Temi and Eazi,” she said.

Her remarks have reignited conversations about her public journey with love and relationships, a topic she has spoken about openly over the years.

Following her failed engagement to British boxer Ryan Taylor, Cuppy has repeatedly shared her experiences navigating dating and her desire to find a genuine life partner.

In previous interviews, the “Jollof on the Jet” singer admitted that her search for love had led her to date people from different social and financial backgrounds, including men.

She once revealed that she had gone on dates with a bus driver and a man who still lived with his mother, explaining that her vulnerability and desire for companionship had sometimes caused her to overlook certain red flags.

Cuppy also admitted that she had reached a point where she no longer places unrealistic expectations on men and is learning to be less controlling in her approach to relationships.

Despite often joking about her single status on social media, she has consistently expressed her desire to settle down and start a family.

The music star has frequently spoken about seeing wedding photos online and being reminded of her own hopes for marriage, often sharing humorous and heartfelt reflections with her followers.

She has also revealed that she receives numerous messages from potential suitors, but believes finding the right person requires more than just attention or attraction.

At one point, Cuppy even joked about expanding her preferences and considering marrying an Indian man as she continued her search for a life partner.

Her comments about marriage have repeatedly generated debate online, with supporters sympathizing with her experiences, while others have challenged her views about Nigerian men.

Regardless of the reactions, Cuppy has maintained that her main priority is finding someone who genuinely loves her for who she is and not because of her family name or wealth.

In a previous prayer shared with fans, the entertainer said she hoped to grow closer to God and wished for a husband who would seek God first before finding her.

For Cuppy, the journey to finding love continues, but she insists that authenticity, genuine affection, and shared values remain more important than status, wealth, or nationality.
