FIFA has launched an investigation after American streamer IShowSpeed was allegedly subjected to racist abuse during Argentina’s FIFA World Cup Round of 32 match against Cabo Verde at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on July 3.
The popular content creator, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr., was attending the match while livestreaming to his audience and wearing a Cabo Verde jersey when the alleged incident occurred.
During the livestream, a woman wearing an Argentina jersey approached IShowSpeed near the stands and leaned over a barrier to speak to him.
Visibly confused, the streamer asked his viewers what the woman had said.
According to reports, the supporter told him in Spanish:
“Go cry at the zoo.”
The remark quickly sparked outrage online, with many social media users condemning it as racist. Clips of the interaction rapidly went viral, prompting calls for action.
In response, FIFA confirmed it is investigating the incident.
In a statement, football’s governing body said:
“FIFA strongly condemns racism, hate and discrimination in all forms. These actions have no place in football, at the FIFA World Cup, or anywhere in society.”
FIFA added that it had been informed of “an incident involving a supporter and #IShowSpeed at Miami Stadium during the Argentina vs Cabo Verde match on July 3 2026” and had immediately begun an investigation.
FIFA reiterated that the World Cup is built on the values of inclusion and mutual respect.
According to the organisation, the tournament represents:
- Unity
- Diversity
- Respect among people from different cultures and backgrounds
The governing body stressed that anyone whose behaviour undermines those values has no place in football.
As of the time of publication, FIFA has not announced whether the supporter involved has been identified or whether disciplinary action will be taken.
The investigation remains ongoing as football authorities review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
