Controversial Nigerian singer Portable has reflected on his educational journey, revealing that he was once regarded as the “Olodo” of his family, even though he is now the one supporting everyone financially.
The Zazu crooner made the revelation during an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, where he spoke about the hardships he faced growing up and how they shaped his life.
Portable disclosed that he struggled financially as a student and had to sell sachet water to support his education because he had no sponsor.
According to him, the challenges eventually forced him to drop out of school.
“I no finish school, the time wey I dey go school, I sell pure water, I no see anybody to sponsor me.”
Despite leaving school before completing his studies, the singer said he still hopes to return and earn his qualification.
“I will still finish school, I be student of Kwara Poly.”
Portable revealed that although his father paid for his brothers’ and sisters’ education, he was often seen as the academically weakest child in the family.
“My papa send my brothers and sisters go school, na me be Olodo…”
The singer said life has since taken a different turn, as he is now the one providing financial support for the same family members.
“…but now, na me dey feed all of them.”
Although Portable has built a successful music career despite not completing his education, he maintained that he has not given up on returning to school.
His comments highlight his journey from struggling to fund his education by selling sachet water to becoming one of Nigeria’s most talked-about street music stars, while expressing his desire to complete his studies at Kwara Polytechnic eventually.
