Manchester United needed two penalties to beat Everton 2-0 in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Red Devils were hoping to bounce back in the early kickoff at Old Trafford.
Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford scored first-half penalties as the hosts took the lead against the run of play.
Alejandro Garnacho won both penalty kicks, with Fernandes coolly scoring the first.
He then gave Rashford the second, allowing the winger to score for the second time in as many games following his long-range strike in the derby last weekend.
The victory was much-needed after back-to-back Premier League defeats against Fulham and Manchester City.
