APC National Chairman, Ganduje, suspended over dollar bribery allegations

Members of the Ganduje Ward in Kano State’s Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area have suspended Abdullahi Ganduje, the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman.

The Ganduje Ward Executive Council, led by Haruna Gwanjo, made the announcement during a news event in Kano on Monday.

Gwanjo emphasized that the suspension is coming on the hills of bribery allegations levelled against Ganduje.

Stating the importance of Ganduje clearing his name from the corruption allegations surrounding his long-standing dollar case.

This is a critical step for him to regain trust and credibility. Understandably, people want transparency and accountability from their leaders, especially regarding such serious allegations. How Ganduje will address these accusations and their impact on his political career remains to be seen.

In 2017, Ganduje was captured in a viral video allegedly receiving bundles of dollar notes as a bribe from a man who was said to be a contractor and stuffing them in the pockets of his agbada.

When the video first surfaced, Ganduje denied its contents and maintained his innocence.

However, it appears that years later, as the administration of Governor Abba Yusuf from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) took over governance, they decided to revisit the case and intended to prosecute the former governor.

The Kano High Court would arraign Ganduje on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 on charges bordering on allegations of bribery, diversion, and misappropriation of funds, including the purported acceptance of $413,000 and N1.38bn in bribes.

The Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Dederi, had said Ganduje would be arraigned alongside his wife and six others.

The Yusuf administration, which initiated the criminal suit against the eight respondents, had declared its readiness to present 15 witnesses to testify before Justice Usman Na’aba of State High Court.
