Davido Adeleke, the superstar Afrobeat singer, revealed that his father, Adedeji Adeleke, advised him to pursue legal action against Kenyan media outlet K24 for their April Fools’ Day prank about his supposed arrest.
K24 had falsely reported on April 1st that Davido was detained at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport after illegal drugs were allegedly discovered on his private plane following a performance at Kenya’s Raha Festival.
Initially dismissed as a joke due to the date, the story gained attention and even prompted an investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), who deemed it a hoax.
Despite initially considering ignoring the incident, Davido ultimately decided to take action after his father expressed concerns about the negative impact on his reputation and potential security risks during his international travels.
In a TikTok video shared by @musicindustryblueprint, Davido acknowledged his father’s advice and decision to pursue legal action against the media outlet responsible for spreading the misinformation.
In his words;
“My dad was calling me like, ‘Where are you at?’ I was like, ‘I am home’. He’s like, what’s this? And I see it on the net, and at first I was like, no, I am not going to report it.
“Just let it go. It’s April Fools. Then my dad was like ‘no because you can fly a plane to any country now and then they bring 20 police to check you’…I haven’t seen that type of drug in my life.
“So yeah, I am taking legal action because it might just go the wrong way if we just don’t.”
