FIFA vote awards 2027 Women’s World Cup to Brazil

FIFA announces host for 2025 Club World Cup

Brazil was selected on Friday to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

A total of 211 member nations participated in the voting process during the 74th FIFA Congress held in Bangkok.

The decision was made between Brazil and a collaborative bid from Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands for hosting rights of the upcoming tournament.

The combined proposal by the United States and Mexico was retracted three weeks prior, as both countries opted to concentrate on the 2031 event, advocating for an equal financial commitment in conjunction with the men’s tournament set to occur across both nations in 2026.

South Africa also pulled out its bid in November 2023, expressing a desire to formulate a more comprehensive proposal for the 2031 World Cup.

This marked the inaugural occasion in which the Congress voted on the host nation for a women’s tournament, as previously the hosts were determined through a voting process conducted by the FIFA Council.

Brazil emerged as the favored candidate following FIFA’s assessment report on the two bids.

Despite never having hosted a Women’s World Cup before, Brazil has previously hosted the men’s tournament in 1950 and 2014.

Initially in contention to host the 2023 Women’s World Cup, Brazil withdrew its bid due to persistent challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Japan also retracted its bid, leaving Colombia and the collaborative entry from Australia and New Zealand as the remaining contenders, with the latter eventually securing victory with 63% of the council vote.

FIFA recently announced plans to introduce the Club World Cup in January/February 2026, featuring 16 clubs representing various nations.

While the exact dates for the World Cup are yet to be finalized, FIFA has earmarked the period between May 25-31 and July 2027 for the tournament to be held.
