Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha, also known as Basketmouth, recently discussed the reasons behind his controversial comments about Wizkid while praising Davido’s wedding for its impact on social media.
During Davido and Chioma’s wedding, Basketmouth expressed frustration over the attention the event was receiving, making it difficult for him to promote his Canadian tour.
He mentioned that even Wizkid’s social media drama was overshadowed by the wedding festivities.
This resulted in backlash from Wizkid fans threatening to “cancel” him.
However, Basketmouth clarified on Backstage Banter with Isi Ijewere during his Canadian tour stop in Toronto, explaining that his comments about Wizkid were simply a strategic marketing move.
He said, “Wizkid is my guy…that was a marketing technique. But I knew it was going to be edgy.
“I knew it was going to hit people. I knew they were going to get upset and they did exactly what I wanted them to do. It worked.”
