Popular Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha, known professionally as Basketmouth, recently took to Instagram to advocate for polygamy and explain why marrying one wife is not ideal.
In his post, Basketmouth cited biblical examples to support his argument in favor of polygamy over monogamy.
Basketmouth, who was formerly married to Elsie for 12 years before announcing their divorce in December 2022, emphasized how men who married multiple wives found favor in the eyes of God, while those with just one wife often strayed from the right path and betrayed their faith.
He wrote via the insta-stories section of his verified Instagram page; “According to the Holy Bible, Ahab – 1 wife Herod – 1 wife Ananias-1 wife Pontius Pilate – 1 wife Jeroboam – 1 wife Nebuchadnezzar. – 1 wife Haaman – 1 wife Zakayo – 1 wife And they all lost their way and betrayed God.”
He added; “Abraham – 3 wives Jacob – 4 wives David – 4 wives Solomon – 700 wives and 300 concubines Rehoboam – 18 wives Abijah – 14 wives Elkanah – 2 wives Lemech – 2 wives And they all found favour in the eyes of the Lord. Whatever you do with this information is none of my business… However u want to interpret it is your cup of tea but I will be comment session.”
