Yoruba Nation advocate Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has refuted claims suggesting his opposition to the upcoming nationwide #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria demonstration.
His representative, Olayomi Koiki, labeled these assertions as “inaccurate” and “misleading propaganda” designed to undermine Igboho’s dedication to Yoruba self-determination.
Koiki clarified that Igboho remains steadfast in his pursuit of Yoruba sovereignty and cited a communique dispatched to President Bola Tinubu on April 17, advocating for talks regarding the peaceful secession of the Yoruba people from Nigeria.
This communique, co-signed by Yoruba Self-Determination Movement (YSDM) leader Prof. AdeBanji Akintoye and Ola Ademola, specified a two-month timeframe for the formation of a negotiation panel, concluding on June 13, 2024.
Igboho restated his position while visiting Oba Benjamin Olanite, the Onimeko of Imeko, on July 25, expressing gratitude to the monarch for his assistance during his detention in Benin Republic.
He stressed that although he supports the right of Nigerians to protest economic challenges, his primary focus remains on securing Yoruba independence.
Koiki implored the media to refrain from disseminating false information regarding Igboho’s standpoint and disclosed plans to dispatch another correspondence to President Tinubu and international organizations to advance discussions on Yoruba independence.
