JUST IN: NLC threatens nationwide shutdown

Nlc

The leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has warned that there will be a nationwide strike if the President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, is detained by the Nigeria Police.

The threat was issued on Tuesday morning at the union’s headquarters, following an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council. The meeting was called to address the police’s invitation of the NLC President on allegations of terrorism financing.

The NEC decided that Ajaero should comply with the police’s invitation, but their legal adviser should request more time for him to appear before the authorities.

Comrade Ado Kabiru Sani, the Deputy President of the NLC, urged the nation’s workforce to be prepared for further instructions in case the police detain Ajaero against their expectations.

His words: “As a committed labor center, we will honor the invitation of the police because we are not a faceless organization, but we are working with our lawyer for an extension of time.

“In the event that the President is arrested, all workers will down tools immediately. We should wait for further directives from our leadership.”
