Former President of the United States and Republican candidate, Donald Trump, is scheduled to conduct an outdoor rally on Wednesday in North Carolina, marking the initial open-air campaign event following his narrowly averted assassination attempt during a prior outdoor engagement a month prior.
As reported by various media outlets in the United States, referencing security and campaign officials, it has been indicated that security measures have been significantly heightened for the afternoon rally set to take place at an aviation museum in Asheboro, North Carolina, which will include the installation of bulletproof glass encasing the podium of the Republican nominee.
The Secret Service had advised that Trump cease conducting outdoor events subsequent to the agency, tasked with the protection of presidents and candidates, failing to avert an assailant who discharged a firearm at him from a rooftop during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, resulting in an injury to Trump’s ear and a fatality among the crowd.
The former President, who has conducted approximately twelve indoor rallies since the incident, has articulated his desire to resume open-air events.
On July 31, he conveyed to his supporters at an indoor venue in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, that “we’re not relinquishing the outdoor rallies.”
A few days prior, Trump, aged 78, communicated via social media his intention to persist with open-air events, asserting that “the Secret Service has concurred to considerably enhance their operations. They are highly proficient in executing this.”
