Ciara commemorates the 20th anniversary of ‘Goodies’ by revealing previously unknown insights about the smash hit single and its corresponding album.
During a visit to The Kelly Clarkson Show, where she also promoted new tracks ‘Run It Up’ and ‘Wassup,’ CiCi revealed how her hallmark hit was almost given to Britney Spears.
Speaking candidly about being on the same label as Spears when the track surfaced, Ciara shared with Clarkson:
“I learned about this later, my song ‘Goodies’ – to my understanding – they were trying to take it away and give it to Britney Spears.
I know Britney was not the one trying to take my song, I love Britney and I want to say that.
At that time period, that was their plan. She was their baby and [they] had her for so long, so of course I’m this new artist. And the song is pretty amazing and I understand why. [That said] If I was writing the song for someone, I bet her singing [it] would be nice. But this song was my song.”
