Nigerian activist and social critic, Martins Vincent Otse, widely recognized by his moniker VeryDarkMan, has inaugurated a new non-governmental organization (NGO) with the objective of reforming the national public education sector through the active participation of members from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
In a comprehensive statement disseminated via social media platforms, Otse articulated his apprehensions regarding the present condition of Nigeria’s educational framework, juxtaposing it with historical precedents.
He elucidated that there existed an era when education was stimulating, and students exhibited enthusiasm toward attending classes, as the government employed youthful and dynamic individuals in teaching positions.
He expressed his dismay regarding the regression in educational quality observed today, attributing it to the prevalence of older, less dynamic educators who currently populate the classrooms.
According to VeryDarkMan, this transformation has rendered the learning experience monotonous, resulting in a decline of student interest and engagement.
The activist underscored the significance of mentorship, elucidating that young learners inherently seek out role models.
In the absence of constructive figures to emulate, they may gravitate towards negative influences, including cultism.
To confront these challenges, VeryDarkMan disclosed that his NGO intends to deploy astute and proficient NYSC members to public educational institutions, where they will participate in various initiatives crafted to augment students’ cognitive abilities and overall academic engagement.
His overarching aim is to overhaul Nigeria’s public education system.
Nevertheless, Otse recognized that he cannot realize this ambition unaccompanied.
He solicited public support, asserting that he lacks the financial resources to compensate the NYSC members who will be providing instruction.
To remedy this situation, he intends to furnish an account number for the NGO to facilitate donations, assuring complete transparency regarding the allocation of the funds received.
Otse concluded by committing to keep all benefactors apprised and to ensure meticulous accountability for every contribution made.
