Barcelona will officially finalize all outstanding contractual remuneration to Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba by the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.
Despite the fact that the aforementioned players are no longer associated with the Catalan institution, having transitioned to Inter Miami, the deferred compensation stemming from the Covid-19 pandemic remains unsettled.
During the pandemic, Messi, Busquets, and Alba consented to postpone a portion of their salaries in order to assist Barcelona in navigating its financial challenges.
Nevertheless, the club retains a fiduciary duty to remunerate the trio in accordance with agreements established subsequent to their exits.
These disbursements are not classified as part of Barcelona’s contemporary expenditures, as they were incorporated into the club’s financial documentation for the 2020/21 fiscal year, which reported losses amounting to €481 million, as per Mundo Deportivo.
The ultimate payments, projected to be executed by the termination of the 2024/25 season, will alleviate a portion of the financial liabilities on the club’s financial statements.
