Former Premier League player Causso Darame has been sentenced to prison for a brutal stabbing incident that left a 19-year-old boy in a state of paralysis.
According to the Mirror, Darame received a sentence of four years and four months behind bars after admitting to charges of robbery and carrying a weapon.
Once a promising player for Swansea’s youth squad during their Premier League tenure, he faced release in 2018. His legal representatives argued that he “struggled to adjust” following his exit, and in May of last year, Darame inflicted harm upon 19-year-old Ronnie Evans, stealing his neck chain and bracelet in the process. The ferocity of the attack—reportedly executed with a rambo knife—resulted in the severing of two nerves in Evans’ leg, rendering him paralyzed from the knee down.
The player who had a fleeting stint with the German fourth-tier team Teutonia FC after leaving Swansea, allegedly menaced Edwards and a companion prior to the assault, threatening to pursue and “kill them.”
Remarkably, Mr. Edwards survived the ordeal only because the blade narrowly missed vital organs in his leg, yet he now faces challenges walking without a splint and has been forced to abandon his career as an electrician, as outlined in his victim impact statement.
Judge Daniel Neill said, as he passed sentence: “You had hoped to become a professional footballer, it didn’t work out. Many dreams don’t work out, many ambitions. By the time that your professional football contract sponsorship came to an end, you had a partner and a newborn child you felt you were failing.”
Darame had previously served a 28-month sentence last year after being caught with heroin and cocaine valued at over £1,000.
