Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez, warned Marco Asensio that he would regret leaving the club before the Spanish attacker departed the Santiago Bernabeu last year, as reported by Real Madrid Confidencial.
Asensio, who joined Real Madrid in 2015 and spent a season on loan at Espanyol, left the Champions League and La Liga winners for PSG on a free transfer in the summer of 2023.
During his seven-year tenure with Real Madrid, Asensio made 286 appearances, scoring 61 goals and providing 32 assists. He won multiple titles with the club, including three La Liga championships, three Champions League trophies, and four FIFA Club World Cups.
Despite his success, Asensio struggled to secure a regular spot in the starting XI, leading to his desire to leave after his contract expired last year. Although Real Madrid attempted to extend his contract, Asensio ultimately opted to join PSG.
According to a report from Real Madrid Confidential, Perez told Asensio (via Madrid Universal):
“If you leave, you will regret it.”
