A passenger airplane carrying 181 individuals met with a tragic accident in the South Korean city of Muan on Sunday.
The airplane, operated by Jeju Air, experienced a malfunction with its landing gear, causing it to deviate from the runway, collide with a fence, and subsequently ignite upon reaching the airport.
The Jeju Air jet was transporting 175 passengers along with six crew members when it encountered difficulties during its landing at the airport in Muan county.
The ill-fated airplane was on a return journey from Bangkok, Thailand, when the unfortunate incident transpired.
According to a report from AP News, South Korean media indicated that the fire resulted in over 28 individuals being either deceased or injured, with two individuals successfully evacuated to safety.
The South Jeolla Province Fire Service Headquarters stated that the casualty count is anticipated to rise as recovery efforts progress.
The agency reported that the fire has been extinguished and rescue personnel are currently engaged in removing passengers from the aircraft.
However, a fire department representative who communicated with CNN remarked that the airplane had been “almost completely destroyed” by the fire.
