Veteran Nigerian singer Seyi Sodimu has shared the life-changing lesson he learned after his iconic 1997 hit “Love Me Jeje” was reimagined by Grammy-winning artist Tems on her debut album Born in the Wild.
Speaking in a new interview with Saturday Beats, Sodimu emphasized the importance of putting your best into every creative work.
“When I wrote that song, I put in 100 per cent. That’s why over 20 years later, it won a Grammy,” he said.
The afrobeats pioneer expressed pride in the genre’s global rise, saying he feels like a “proud father” watching today’s stars build on the foundation laid by his generation.
Sodimu also revealed that he’s working on a documentary chronicling his life, music journey, and the making of “Love Me Jeje,” alongside a best-of compilation project.
Tems’ soulful reinterpretation of Love Me Jeje has not only brought the classic back into the spotlight but also earned Grammy recognition at the 2024 awards, solidifying the legacy of the timeless anthem.
