A former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Alhaji Kunmi Mustapha, has declared support for Governor Seyi Makinde to contest the 2027 presidential election, citing his bold leadership and developmental achievements.
In a statement released on Thursday in Ibadan to mark Governor Makinde’s sixth year in office, Mustapha described the governor as a visionary leader whose performance has set him apart not just in Oyo State but across Nigeria.
“The current situation of the main opposition party in Nigeria is not an indication that the PDP cannot snatch power at the centre in 2027,” Mustapha stated.
He praised Makinde’s achievements in urban renewal, education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, and social welfare, saying these efforts reflect genuine concern for the well-being of the people.
“There has not been any politician in Yorubaland, apart from Pa Obafemi Awolowo, who has a vision for the development of the masses and puts all his heart into actualising those visions,” he said.
Mustapha, who currently serves as Makinde’s Special Adviser on Political Affairs, called on Nigerians to support leaders who prioritize the welfare of citizens over personal gain.
“Makinde has distinguished himself as a brave man who exhibits uncommon leadership traits. Come rain or shine, we commit our loyalty to him. We, therefore, urge him to start working towards 2027.”
He also commended key PDP figures, including Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja, and BoT member Chief Bode George, for their efforts in maintaining party unity.
Governor Makinde, first elected in 2019, has been widely recognized for his technocratic approach to governance and his emphasis on infrastructure, education, and economic reforms in Oyo State.
