“I Didn’t Join Politics to Be a Contractor” — Wike Fires Back at Makinde Amid PDP Tensions

Your problem is that Tinubu didn’t give you ministerial slot – Wike slams Makinde

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has openly criticised Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde over remarks tied to the internal dynamics of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Wike made the remarks on Monday during the party’s 107th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, where he addressed ongoing speculations about his political alignment ahead of the 2027 elections.

Responding to claims that he is working for President Bola Tinubu, Wike dismissed the allegations and pushed back strongly against critics within the party.

“It’s unfortunate a fight you cannot fight, you started,” Wike said, in what appeared to be a direct jab at Makinde.

The former Rivers State governor emphasized that his involvement in politics is driven by the pursuit of power and influence—not personal gain or contracts.

“Politics is not a contract. I didn’t go into politics to be a contractor. I went into politics to have power,” he stated.

Wike also used the platform to encourage party members with ambitions for the 2027 elections to remain active and undeterred, regardless of internal divisions within the PDP.

He noted that even if some PDP governors are absent or not aligned, it should not discourage aspirants from contesting positions at both state and federal levels.

His comments underscore the deepening cracks within the opposition party as it begins early positioning ahead of the next general election cycle.
