Former First Lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan, has added a new feather to her cap by earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Psychology, Guidance and Counselling from Ignatius Ajuru University of Education.
The announcement was made in a statement by her media adviser, Chris Okeke, following the university’s 43rd Postgraduate Convocation Ceremony, which took place on Saturday.

Speaking at the event, Dame Jonathan emphasized the transformative power of lifelong learning, urging Nigerian women and young people not to let age be a barrier to education.
“I feel that no age is too late to achieve your academic dreams, whether you are young or old,” she said.
“If I can do it, you can also do it… Even in retirement, you are not too old to go back to school. Education provides the opportunity to refresh your brain and learn new things.”
A Dedication to Nigerian Women
The former first lady dedicated her PhD to Nigerian women, reaffirming her lifelong commitment to advocating for the rights and welfare of women, children, and youths. She pledged to intensify her efforts in promoting dialogue and pushing for the upliftment of vulnerable groups in society.
Gratitude to God and Family
Reflecting on her academic journey, she expressed profound gratitude to God and thanked her husband, former President Goodluck Jonathan, for his unwavering support.
“First of all, I am very grateful to the Almighty God who has made today a reality… I also thank my family sincerely, especially my lovely husband… for all his support and very useful suggestions,” she said.
“I appreciate all my friends for their encouragement. I feel very happy today.”
Dame Patience Jonathan’s achievement is being celebrated nationwide as an inspiring example of perseverance, the value of education, and women empowerment.
