Tensions between former U.S. President Donald Trump and billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk have reached a boiling point, with Trump publicly rejecting any notion of reconciliation or communication with the Tesla and SpaceX CEO.
Speaking to ABC News, Trump dismissed reports that a call was being scheduled between the two men.
“You mean the man who has lost his mind?” he said when asked about Musk.
When pressed further, Trump added, “I’m not particularly interested” in speaking with him, despite reports Musk had expressed interest in a conversation.
Earlier on Friday, conflicting messages emerged from the White House. One official suggested a phone call was “expected” later that day, only for another to deny any such conversation was on the agenda.
Fallout Over “Big Beautiful Bill” and Epstein Allegations
The high-profile rift escalated after Musk publicly criticized Trump’s legislative initiative dubbed the “Big Beautiful Bill.” In retaliation, Trump slammed Musk from the Oval Office, sparking a fierce digital backlash from the tech billionaire.
In a now-viral post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk didn’t hold back:
“Time to drop the really big bomb: Trump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!”
The explosive claim further intensified the feud, prompting Trump to threaten to cut billions of dollars in federal subsidies supporting Musk’s companies.
Tesla Shares Dip, Musk Calls for Impeachment
Tesla’s stock price took a noticeable dip following the public clash, with analysts citing Musk’s volatile political commentary as a key concern.
Adding fuel to the fire, Musk called for Trump’s impeachment, accusing the administration of deliberately suppressing documents related to Jeffrey Epstein that allegedly implicate the former president.
Hopes for De-escalation?
Despite the hostility, billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman made a public plea for peace:
“The world would benefit from their unity,” Ackman said.
Musk’s surprisingly calm reply—“You’re not wrong”—has sparked speculation about a possible thawing of tensions, though Trump’s latest comments suggest otherwise.
