Segun Showunmi, a former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his Lagos residence.
Showunmi, who previously contested for the PDP governorship ticket in Ogun State, shared a photo from the visit on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
“Sallah Day 3! I spent quality time with the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, @officialABAT GCFR. It was engaging and nostalgic,” he captioned the post.
The picture, showing Showunmi standing beside President Tinubu, has fueled fresh political speculations regarding possible shifts in political allegiances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This visit comes amid a noticeable pattern of meetings between President Tinubu and key figures formerly aligned with opposition parties, sparking debates about realignments in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Neither Showunmi nor the presidency has disclosed details of their discussions.
Public Reaction
While some political analysts view the visit as a simple Sallah courtesy, others believe it could hint at deeper political recalibrations as the 2027 elections approach.
