President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally requested the National Assembly’s confirmation of critical appointments in Rivers State, as part of measures under the recently declared state of emergency in the region.
In a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary session, Tinubu sought approval for the appointment of a Chairman and six members of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).
The nominees were put forward by the sole administrator currently overseeing the state’s affairs.
President Tinubu emphasized that these appointments are essential to ensure smooth governance during the emergency period and to support the administrator in managing state functions effectively.
The request also includes confirmations for positions within the Rivers State Primary Healthcare Board, the Rivers State Civil Service Commission, and the Rivers State Local Government Civil Service Commission.
The Senate has referred the matter to its ad hoc committee on the emergency rule in Rivers State, which is expected to submit its report within one week.
