Pastor Paul Adefarasin Granted Bail After Interrogation Over Viral Stun Gun Video

Pastor Paul Adefarasin Condemns Benue Massacre, Urges National Action

Founder of House on the Rock Church, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, has been granted bail by the Lagos State Police Command following his interrogation over a viral video that showed him pointing a gun-like object at a road user.

Confirming the development on Tuesday, the state police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that the popular cleric voluntarily honoured an invitation by appearing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba.

During questioning, the object in question was recovered and identified as a prohibited anti-riot stun gun, not a firearm, as widely speculated.

“The object recovered was a stun gun, which is classified as prohibited under Nigerian law. Investigations are ongoing, and we maintain that no one is above the law,” Hundeyin stated.

The incident, captured on video and shared widely on social media last week, showed Pastor Adefarasin alighting from a black vehicle and pointing the object at a man who appeared to be filming him. The footage quickly went viral, sparking public outrage and calls for police action.

Responding to the controversy, Adefarasin clarified during his Sunday sermon that the clip was misleading and lacked full context. He denied threatening anyone with a gun.

“I did not point a gun at anyone,” Adefarasin told his congregation. “It was not a gun, and the situation was not as painted. People love drama, but we must stay calm and let the truth unfold.”

Despite his defence, the police confirmed that possession of such a stun gun by civilians is a violation of Nigerian law.

Adefarasin is widely known for founding “The Experience,” an annual gospel concert that attracts thousands of worshippers and features international gospel artists. His church, House on the Rock, has branches across Nigeria and abroad.

The Lagos Police Command assured the public that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
