Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has debunked claims suggesting that he is planning to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reaffirming his commitment to the party.

Speaking during an interactive session with members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) on Saturday in Enugu, Mbah dismissed the rumours, stating clearly;

“I am still in the PDP, as you can see, the flag behind me is that of the PDP.”

While admitting that the PDP is facing internal challenges, the governor stressed that the real issues confronting the country go beyond party politics. He expressed confidence that the PDP would eventually overcome its problems.

On the issue of independent candidacy, Mbah noted that the Nigerian Constitution does not currently provide for individuals to contest elections without being affiliated to a political party.

“You must still do the politics as you cannot completely shield yourself from it,” he said.

The governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to service, stating that his focus remains on governance.

“It is also clear from the people of Enugu State that we are in this to serve them,” Mbah said.
“I believe that at the end of the day, the people would have to decide whether they want to renew our mandate or kick us out.”

He also disclosed that his main rival in the 2023 governorship election, Mr. Chijioke Edeoga, had rejoined the PDP and is now working with him to advance the state’s development agenda.
