Plateau State Governor, Caleb Muftwang, has firmly denied ongoing rumors suggesting that he is planning to defect from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The denial comes amid heightened speculation in recent weeks following the reported defections of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and Akwa Ibom Governor, Pastor Umo Enoh, both of whom have been linked with possible moves to the APC.
In a recent interview with BBC Hausa Service, Governor Muftwang addressed the reports head-on, categorically stating that there is no truth to the claims and that he remains committed to the PDP — the party under which he was elected governor.
“There is no prohibition on a hunter pursuing wild animals,” Muftwang remarked, referring to the reports with a touch of irony.
“I am sure they see something interesting in us, that is why they want us to join their party. Just as you read it in the newspaper, I also read it.”
He went further to reaffirm his loyalty to the PDP, emphasizing that nothing would compel him to abandon the party that gave him the platform to become governor.
“I have never contemplated leaving the PDP, and nothing will ever make me abandon the party,” he declared.
Governor Muftwang’s response is the latest in a string of clarifications by PDP leaders amid growing rumors of realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. As political movements and coalition talks intensify, his firm stance signals that not every opposition figure is preparingto switch sides.
