Nigerian singer and songwriter Johnny Drille has opened up about his decision to keep his family life out of the public spotlight.

In a recent interview with The Punch, the soulful vocalist shared that the decision is a deliberate one made to protect his loved ones from the intense pressures that come with fame.

“The decision to keep my family off the public space is intentional,” Johnny Drille stated.

“When one is exposed to the world in the way celebrities are, they can get used to having everything about them out there. But not everyone wants that kind of attention, and I try to respect that. I am also very protective of the people I love.”

“They Didn’t Choose This Life — I Did”

Born John Ighodaro, the 34-year-old singer explained that those closest to him did not sign up for life in the public eye, and he wants to ensure they retain their peace and privacy.

“The people in my life did not necessarily choose the life I live, and there is no reason they should lose their privacy because of me,” he explained.

“Also, some things are just more enjoyable when they are private.”

Johnny, who is known for his introspective and emotionally rich music, added that his naturally introverted personality plays a big role in how he navigates fame and social media.

“I believe I am naturally a private person. I am not the kind of person to put everything out there. There are people who thrive on attention, and that’s okay. But for me, I find joy in living quietly and focusing on my music.”

His Journey So Far

Speaking on his musical career, Johnny acknowledged that the journey hasn’t been easy, but he remains grateful.

“I have not reached the height I dream of yet, but I am grateful for how far I have come. I just want to be a voice of hope and comfort in a world that desperately needs it.”

Johnny Drille signed with Mavin Records in 2017 and has since gained a loyal fanbase through heartfelt ballads such as “Wait for Me,” “Romeo & Juliet,” and “How Are You (My Friend)”. His sound blends folk, R&B, and Afro-soul, setting him apart in Nigeria’s mainstream music scene.
