“I Take Accountability” – ‘Love Island USA’ Star Cierra Ortega Breaks Silence on Exit and Backlash

Cierra Ortega

Cierra Ortega, a former contestant on Love Island USA season seven, is speaking out after her unexpected departure from the show made headlines and went viral. The reality TV star has now addressed the controversy and is taking full responsibility for the actions that led to her removal.

As previously reported, producers of Love Island USA asked Cierra Ortega to leave the villa after old social media posts resurfaced in which she used a racial slur directed at the Asian community.

In newly reposted videos shared by The Shade Room, Cierra Ortega appears to be speaking from a bedroom shortly after leaving the show, offering a sincere apology and explanation to her followers.

“I am deeply, truly, honestly… so sorry. I had no idea that the word held as much pain as much harm and came with the history that it did or I never would’ve used it. I had no ill intention when I was using it, but that’s absolutely no excuse, because intent doesn’t excuse ignorance. I take accountability for using the word. I genuinely had no idea that it was a slur and no idea of it’s meaning,” Cierra said in the video.

Cierra Ortega also directly addressed the Asian community and made it clear that she does not see herself as the victim in this situation. She accepted the network’s decision to remove her from the villa, stating:

“I completely agree with the network’s decision to remove me from the villa. I think this is something that deserves punishment. The punishment has absolutely been received for sure.”

She acknowledged the criticism and backlash she’s faced, expressing understanding about why people are upset.

“I think the backlash has been hard to deal with, but I understand that people are kind of confused on why I would’ve even said or why I would’ve been doubling down on continuing to use it. So, I understand where the hate is coming from.”

While taking accountability for her own actions, Cierra Ortega expressed concern over the impact the situation has had on her family, revealing that they’ve faced threats and even had ICE called on them.

“There’s no need to fight hate with hate. I don’t think that’s justice. And if you want to know that you are heard and that I’m sorry… and that I will move differently, I promise you that’s what will happen.”

As the dust settles, Cierra Ortega’s message stands as a moment of public reckoning—one she hopes will lead to personal growth and greater understanding moving forward.
