Scott Swift, father of global pop star Taylor Swift, is on the mend after undergoing quintuple bypass surgery, according to a spokesperson who spoke with TMZ.
The 73-year-old’s procedure reportedly took place over a month ago, and was not prompted by a heart attack. Instead, doctors identified a serious issue during a routine check-up, prompting the urgent operation.
Taylor Swift, 35, along with her younger brother Austin Swift, 33, and their mother Andrea, were by Scott’s side throughout the process, offering support before, during, and after the procedure.
The representative confirmed that Scott is now feeling great following his recovery. A quintuple bypass is a major cardiac operation where surgeons use healthy vessels from other parts of the body to bypass five blocked coronary arteries in the heart.
Though Taylor Swift often keeps her private life out of the public eye, she has previously spoken about her parents’ health struggles. In a candid 2019 essay for ELLE, she revealed that both her parents had battled cancer, with her mother Andrea’s condition being especially serious.
“Both of my parents have had cancer, and my mom is now fighting her battle with it again,” she wrote. “It’s taught me that there are real problems and then there’s everything else… I give all of my worry, stress, and prayers to real problems now.”
Andrea Swift, 67, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. The illness later returned, and in 2020, Taylor Swift revealed that doctors had discovered a brain tumor during Andrea’s second round of treatment.
Despite the family’s ongoing health challenges, they remain close-knit and supportive — a dynamic Taylor has often credited as the foundation of her strength.
