Veteran journalist and Ovation Magazine publisher, Dele Momodu, has declared that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar remains the most feared and formidable opposition figure in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, Momodu explained his recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and revealed he would be supporting Atiku in the 2027 presidential election.
“Everybody is afraid of Atiku, and that is exactly why I, Dele Momodu, support him,” he said.
Momodu, who contested the presidency in 2011 and participated in the PDP primaries in 2022, said his decision to back Atiku is not emotional but rooted in strategic political reasoning.
“The fear the ruling party has for him shows he remains the most formidable opposition figure today. When everyone is trying to discredit or silence a man, it means he’s the one they truly fear,” he added.
Atiku, who was the PDP’s presidential candidate in 2019 and 2023, has not officially declared his intention to run in 2027, but growing support from political allies like Momodu continues to spark speculation.
Momodu’s move to the ADC signals a shift in political alliances ahead of what promises to be another fiercely contested election cycle in Nigeria.
