The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has publicly disassociated itself from former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, asserting that he is neither a member nor an authorised representative of the party.
This was made clear during a press briefing in Kaduna on Friday by the SDP North-West Zonal Secretary, Inuwa Idris. He condemned El-Rufai’s reported appearances at policy dialogues and private meetings where he allegedly spoke as though representing the SDP.
“Malam El-Rufai has no authorisation, mandate, or recognition from our party to speak, act, or represent us in any capacity,” Idris stated firmly. “His involvement in such events has occurred without the knowledge or approval of our national leadership.”
Idris clarified that El-Rufai is not listed in any official SDP membership register, has never participated in party activities, and has not been appointed to any role within the organisation.
The party reaffirmed its current leadership structure, including Acting National Chairman Dr. Sadiq Umar, National Secretary Chief Olu Agunloye, and 2023 presidential candidate Prince Adewole Adebayo. It also issued a strong warning to the public and stakeholders to disregard any statements made by El-Rufai under the SDP’s name.
Additionally, Idris called for the immediate suspension of Dr. Umar Ardo, accusing him of promoting the African Democratic Congress (ADC) while exploiting the SDP platform. “This is a final warning. Stop your fraudulent activities or we’ll be forced to act,” Idris warned, adding that the party’s NEC may launch a committee to expose ongoing impersonations and publish their findings widely.
