Rapper Tory Lanez is officially heading back to court as oral arguments in his appeal against a 10-year prison sentence have been scheduled for August 18, 2025.
Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, is seeking to overturn his conviction in the high-profile case involving the 2020 shooting of fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion.
Lanez was found guilty in December 2022 on three felony counts: assault with a semi-automatic firearm, carrying a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. He was sentenced in August 2023 to 10 years in prison.
His legal team maintains that key errors were made during the trial and has filed an appeal aiming to reduce or vacate the sentence altogether. The upcoming court date will see both sides present oral arguments before a California appellate court.
The case continues to draw national attention due to its celebrity ties and broader cultural implications, especially around violence against women and accountability within the music industry.
