Reekado Banks Admits Leaving Mavin Records Was Premature

Reekado Banks Reveals Wizkid Apologised for Calling Him Out During #EndSARS Saga

Nigerian singer Reekado Banks has confessed that his exit from Mavin Records, the label that launched him to stardom, came earlier than it should have.

The award-winning artist, who rose to fame under Don Jazzy’s label after winning Rookie of the Year at The Headies 2014 and the controversial Next Rated award in 2015, left Mavin in 2018 to start his own imprint, Banks Music.

In a recent interview with reality star Teddy A on Echoo Room, Reekado Banks admitted that running his music career independently made him realise he had left too soon.

“It [my exit from Mavin Records] wasn’t a conflict situation. I was pretty young and fixated on what I wanted to do – I wanted to leave. Anyways, my contract had ended two years prior. I signed a three-year deal and allowed it to ride for another two years. So, I was there for five years without reviewing the contract,” he explained.

He stressed that his decision was not due to disagreements with the label, but rather a youthful determination to chart his own course. However, the singer admitted the move was premature.

“So, when it was time, I thought I could do it now. I just embarked on the journey, as many people would view it, prematurely. As soon as I jumped into the sea, I realised how premature it was,” Reekado Banks said.
