With just one month left before the expiration of the six-month emergency rule in Rivers State, supporters of suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara say they are counting down to his anticipated return on September 18, 2025.
Speaking with The Punch, Fubara’s media aide, Jerry Omatsogunwa, noted that Rivers residents were eager to see the governor resume office and continue his developmental projects.
“Expectations for the governor’s return are very high,” Omatsogunwa said. “He had been doing wonderfully well as head of the Rivers State Government. Several projects were ongoing, including the multi-billion-naira Port Harcourt Ring Road, which cuts across about six local government areas.”
Omatsogunwa added that Fubara’s comeback would revive major infrastructure works, such as the Port Harcourt Ring Road, the Omoku-Elele Road, and the Trans Kalabari Road, which risked delays during his absence.
“The expectation is that these projects will be revived immediately so they don’t suffer setbacks. I believe he will want to accelerate them to ensure people get the full benefit of their money,” he said.
The aide further revealed that from Monday, August 18, the official countdown to the governor’s return had begun, describing Fubara as “the most loved governor in Rivers State.”
Recall that on March 18, 2025, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending the governor, his deputy, and members of the House of Assembly. The decision was linked to the prolonged political crisis between Fubara and his predecessor and political benefactor, Nyesom Wike.
