Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez has rubbished speculation of a fallout with teammate Gavi, insisting their bond remains as strong as ever.
Spanish media reports had hinted at tension between the duo following a cryptic social media post by Lopez earlier in the summer, which some fans linked to personal issues between the pair.
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, the 22-year-old made it clear the rumours are unfounded.
“Gavi has been my friend since I was 12 years old. I’ve known him since my time at Betis, but since I joined La Masia he’s been my friend, like my brother.
We have shared a lot. People always speculate, this is not going to change, but he is still my friend. We have a good relationship, as always and I have nothing more to say about it.”
Lopez also revealed that he rejected late interest from Chelsea this summer after seeking advice from senior figures in the Barcelona dressing room.
“I’ve had some conversations with some. I can tell you… Ter Stegen, for example. With him, with Ronald, with Pedri… With quite a few players, really. Raphinha too.
But the whole team has been very supportive of me this week and everyone wanted me to stay too. The affection of the dressing room is appreciated.”
Backed by head coach Hansi Flick, Lopez is expected to play an important role for Barça this season after committing his future to the Catalan giants.
