Former Real Housewives of Durban star, TV presenter, and podcaster Nonkanyiso Conco, popularly known as LaConco, is breaking new ground in her career.
She has joined the cast of the isiZulu-dubbed version of the globally acclaimed BBC CBeebies animated series Bluey, voicing Chilli, the mom.
BBC Studios confirmed that the Emmy and BAFTA-winning children’s show is now available in isiZulu, Afrikaans, Swahili, and Nigerian Pidgin, marking a major step forward for African representation in global kids’ entertainment.
For those unfamiliar, Bluey follows the adventures of a playful puppy who lives with her mom, dad, and younger sister, Bingo.
The series has become a worldwide hit, celebrated for its heartwarming storytelling and ability to highlight the magic in everyday family life.
Sharing her excitement about the project, LaConco said:
“Voicing Chilli has been a deeply personal and joyful experience. Bluey’s stories are universal but hearing them in our own languages makes them feel even more special. It’s a gift to our children.”
Barbara Jerzyk Alvarez, Head of CEEMA Content Sales at BBC Studios, also emphasized the importance of the milestone, noting:
“Bluey has always celebrated the magic of everyday family life and now, more children can experience that magic in the language they speak at home.”
With LaConco lending her voice to Chilli, South African children can now enjoy the adventures of Bluey in isiZulu—making the beloved stories not only entertaining but also culturally relatable.
