Cardi B Explains Why She Turned Down Super Bowl Halftime Show

Cardi B set to drop New Rap Single titled WAP featuring Megan thee Stallion

Cardi B has revealed the reason she declined an offer to headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

In a new interview with Billboard, the I Like It star explained that she turned down the opportunity because she felt it was too early in her career and wanted to wait until she had more hit songs under her belt.

“I got asked to do the Super Bowl and I denied it. I feel like soon, if I get to do it, I’m going to have more hits. I’m going to be more experienced and I’m going to eat that up,” she said.

Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Almanzar, had previously disclosed to the Associated Press in 2019 that she also rejected the Halftime Show in solidarity with NFL player Colin Kaepernick, who famously knelt during the national anthem to protest racial injustice and police brutality. At the time, she said she wanted to support him because he “stood up for minorities”.

Now, with her highly anticipated second album Am I The Drama? set to drop on 19 September — seven years after her debut Invasion of Privacy — Cardi B may have the catalogue of hits she once felt she lacked for such a massive stage.

Meanwhile, speculation continues to swirl around who will headline the 2026 Super Bowl at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on 8 February. Many believe Taylor Swift, who is engaged to Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, could be next year’s performer.
