Crystal Palace made a winning start to their first full European campaign, defeating Dynamo Kyiv 2-0 in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday night.
The match, played in Lublin, Poland due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, saw Palace extend their unbeaten run to a club-record 19 matches.
Munoz and Nketiah on Target
Palace struck first in the opening half when Daniel Muñoz powered home a brilliant header. The advantage was doubled after the restart, with Eddie Nketiah converting from close range following an excellent cross from Yeremy Pino.
The victory was not without drama, as Borna Sosa received two quick yellow cards, reducing Palace to ten men for the final 15 minutes.
Historic Night for Palace
The win marked a historic moment for the club. Palace had previously only tasted continental football once — in a 1998 Intertoto Cup tie.
They earned their place in Europe by lifting the FA Cup against Manchester City, but were moved from the Europa League into the Conference League due to UEFA’s multi-club ownership rules.
What’s Next
Palace are considered favourites for the Conference League title and will next host AEK Larnaca of Cyprus on October 23. They are also set to face AZ Alkmaar (Netherlands), Strasbourg (France), Shelbourne (Ireland), and KuPS (Finland) in the league phase.
